O.K. Looking for suggestions-boat is Chapp-19' Villan 5.7,Alpha 1,2100lbs,boat had a 19p alum on it when I got it,obviously wayyyy wrong prop, WOT was over 5600, now have a cleaver 21 WOT 5200-still a little high @ 58 mph, tried a 23p cupped SS-WOT 4800 @55 mph, lost more than I expected, rpm was good but not top-end ,I'm trying for 60 plus, I think the boat will spin a 23 cleaver no problem. A friend swears by the 4-bladers but I have no knowledge about how or what to even try in a 4-blade. Should I try a 4-blade?? and which one ,or is the 23 cleaver the ticket?? I can test- borrow most any prop.
Thanks Jimbo

Props are allways fun to play with and sense you have the ability to try so many, It makes it even better. It seems that your boat likes the cleaver design, and a 23 would put your boat close to the desired RPMs. The four blade will give you a better hole shot, but will probably hurt your top end. Id like to see you try a 32 cupped three blade just to see what happens. Im really not a prop guy, only going on what I see! You will get some more help!

How long have you had your torque shift? Does it work as good as in their video?

Re: props-the never ending mystery

I Love mine So Much......
I bought two more on ebay, So I'll Always have a Spare, Ready to Go...... :D

My boat is an Extremely Well Dressed, Lake Ontario Troller........
1974 Starcraft Islander, Transplanted 4.3LX, 205+hp, Alpha1 drive in 1.65/1 ratio.......
Low Gear with the Prop is 11" of Pitch....... I've had to put Braces in to reinforce my New hand built 2" transom... It was Flexing the trim out of place.... It'll Rip the Shoulders Off a water Skier......
But,
That's Not Why I Like It......
At 11"s pitch, I can troll down to 1.5mph, Without the Tabs Down, or the Bags Out...... I put the Heaviest Springs in mine, to Hold it in low gear Longer.... I can troll Up to 2/2.5mph or more,+ it doesn't try to shift......
The draw-back to this strategy is I have to Force it to Shift Up..... The round-ear blades just Won't blow-out... To Up-shift,+ Cruise, I have to over trim the drive... 50/75' Rooster-tail, you Hear it shift, Then trim back down for cruise...... Once shifted, It'll stay up, as long as you're on plane.......
I had all three out today... getting the second one ready..... The one from the boat measures 11"s at low,+ 20"s in High.... That gives my 1.5mph trolling,+ 44/46mphgps WOT, here on the lake,+ 52mphgps in the Salt off Maine..........

Re: props-the never ending mystery

The part #s end in either 26, or 32......
The 1s ending in 26, Start at 11"s pitch,+ can be limited to anywhere from 18"s to 26"s........
The 1s ending in 32, run from 13"s to 32"s......
Other than that you need to get the right Hub.... Late Model OMCs,+ Mercruiser use the Same hub.... Then there's Volvo, Etc.....
Go to their website, Dig Deep enough,+ you'll find Everything you need to know.......
The more you Play with it, the more Fun it gets.......

Re: props-the never ending mystery

I think I will look into it, I heard one shift one time and I about fell out of my boat, that was before I knew what they were. Thanks for the info.

Ride---my rig is about the same setup as yours.
I can hit 62 mph (measured by GPS--don't rely on your speedometer) with a Mercury Vengence 21 pitch SS prop.

I also have the Torque shift for pulling tubes and skiers. I lose a bit on the top end becuase the Torque Shift doesn't seem to bite as well at full out trim---still playing with it.

I also picked up a Mercury 23-pitch Laser 2 on ebay and am anxious to see what it adds to the top end.
