Pros/Cons of a cleaver prop?

I'm currently running a Mercruiser Mirage (round-ear) prop, 14 5/8" x 23" pitch. Boat is 26' Corsa w/454-330 & TRS.

I've found a good deal on a cleaver prop in the same configuration. Any advantage/disadvantage to running a cleaver?

Not seeking top-speed, more interested in efficiency.

Thanks in advance,

D. Ocean
Pompano Beach, FLA

Re: Pros/Cons of a cleaver prop?

A cleaver is usally only good for a boat that has a high X dimension for the prop shaft, that is a propshaft that is positioned near or above the planing surface of the hull, which would allow the prop to pierce the waters surface, most sterndrive boats would not benefit from a Cleaver, but large v6 outboards with a jackplate may benefit....but the only way to really find out is to try one out...

Myself. I run a cleaver on my I/O, round ears just wouldn't get me in the rpm/speed range I was looking for, maybe my x-factor is higher up on the transom than most, my transom at the rear is very flat, not deep-veeish. The cleaver for me was the ticket. Guess it depends on the hull.
