Prospective inboard to outboard conversion?

Hello all,

I was looking at this boat for sale on ebay. The owner has had the I/O cutout glassed over and was planning to put an outboard on this boat prior to wanting to sell. I have a 1975 Mercury 1500 inline 6 looking for a home.

My question is "what am I looking at as far as mounting the outboard to a former inboard setup?" I would plan to put a manual jackplate on and then mount the outboard, but wouldn't I have to cut out some of the top of the transom in order to allow the motor to tilt into the splashwell/current motor cover area? Would this be feasible, or in the end more trouble than it's worth?

Thanks for any thoughts or words of caution!
