Hey everyone I'm new here to the forum, and I am glad to be here. I am the proud owner of a 1978 glastron cv-16 ss. She needs a little work before she goes on the water next year. I need to fix a small gas leak, and re wire the whole thing. But totally worth it. Cant wait for next spring.

Are u sure `bout the year or the type...as 1976 was the final year for the CV16ss, to be continued in 77 as the CVX16ss wich has a padded hull and different looks`?
The the last two digits on the Hin code stamped in the right corner on the transom tell you the year.

Your right Frank246 I was told it was a 78 but the boat says 73. I guess I should pay more attention. You really know your Glastrons, Thanks. Maybe finding parts and wiring diagrams will be a little easier.

A 73 cv16ss nice ..I owned a similar one, also a 73 cv16ss in apricot.
What color do yours have, gold or apricot and volvo penta or mercruiser drive?

It's apricot with the Volvo penta. I'm not liking the color much a new paint job is in order. I want the same paint scheme just a solid non meatllic paint, maybe a burgundy. But for 400 bucks for the boat I can afford new paint. I thought I posted some pics but it apparently didnt work.

Its the twin bro from what i had.
The photos are in your album, you might have to shrink them (ws paint) to post in the thread.
How is the transome and deck, these hulls have floatation foam under the deck that might have water absorbed over the years, i drained some 10 gal. out of it and it never complete dryed out so i removed the deck, scooped out the clogged foam and gained 3 mph.
Tough outdrive and reliable engine and keep the primary drive shaft lubed big time!
You have some color in mind yet?

The deck and transom are solid, as for the foam I dont know if its water loged. I dont want to tear up the deck unless I absolutely have to I've done that once before on a friends boat and I dont want to do it again. You said keep the primary drive shaft lubed. How do I do that and what kind of lube,gear oil, grease? Sorry about all the questions this is my first boat and I don't want to screw it up.

When the wood is solid, there is no need
The primary is the shaft from the motor to the outdrive inside the bellhousing.
On top there is a brass cap covering a grease channel to the bearing, keep it full with grease (EP2 bearing grease) so this bearing stays lubed. Mine was seized due to lack of grease and a hell of a job to replace.

Is that what that cap is for. I was wondering about that. Im a carpenter not a mechanic so thats a huge help. I havent really made much progress on her lately its been too cold. Ive been working on the wiring, what a night mare. all the wires from the power trim have been cut for some reason. So thats my next chore.

The 270 does not have Trim, it is Tilt only to raise the outdrive for transportation not to Trim the outdrive while boating.
These tilt actuators can be a pain in the b*t when not working correctly and mostly the wiring is a mess finding out why they mallfunction.

You've got a wiring diagram! I have been looking everywhere for one. You would make me a very happy man if you would share that with me. What kind of boat do you have now if you got rid of your cv-16?

Here you go for the tilt wiring, I hope its readable.
I sold the cv16ss in 2005 and bought a (wreck) `78 cvx16ss in 2006 which I complete rebuild with all new wood, restored the interior and swapped the stock mercruiser 4 cylinder 140 hp engine for a 225hp Ford v8 running 61.8mph.
Im working on a 100hp NOS set up and hydraulic ext. steering at the moment.

Frank246 you just made my month!! Thankyou very much. Do you have pics of your boat? And a 100 hp nos setup, wow. will the hull even touch the water when you hit that button??? Holy cow. I'll bet that thing is a blast.

As was the cv16ss a blast to ride too!!!
The minor thing was to find some more horses for the B20 volvo, there is a V8 version of the CV16 that has a 155hp Glastron Custom or (also) Ford 302 motor, they are kinda rare but show up for sale once in a while.
I couldnt get my hands on the bellhousing to go for that conversion where I live at that time. I did built custom hydraulic trim set up for the Volvo 270 leg and got some est. 5mph more speed to a steady ~45 mph. (on speedo)
If you need some more specs or info gimme a sign.
