Finally found the right motor. 4 HP Evinrude, 2Cylinder, 2 stroke. I believe it is late 70's vintage. SN E0009234 and Model NO. E4BR4CNR.
Seems to run smooth and start really easy.
Compression top = 55
Compression Btm = 60

Can anyone tell me what year this motor is ?
Where can I get an owners / service manual ?
What is a good way to de-carbonize the cylinders ?
How the heck to I get the cowling off ? I can lower the bottom housing, but how do I remove the top cowling ? This guy has some sort of wierd two piece housing.

Howdy, prginocx.

That's a 1982 engine.

Manuals can be had from kencook.com.

Decarb is covered well in the Engine FAQs.

Good luck. :)

With the lower cowl lose, look up underneath toward the top. I believe there are four screws holding the top cowl/starter in place. They have to be removed with a long screw driver. Wierd set up.

Here's a link to the BRP site. Click on engine diagrams and follow the prompts. You can at least get a parts break down for your engine.

http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/

And I think that second "4" in your posted model number is really an "H".

You guys are terrific. I swear my huge phillips was just about in that big screw...
I once took apart the recoil spring on a Force 5HP motor, thing took off like a frisbee. Way fun to rewind.
