Thanks CRB -

Feeling quite down at moment - seeing these reading psi and then reading what others say depress me somewhat..

I have invested alot of time/effort and a bit of dosh into this donk.

I will purchase a new guage form shelf and try again. How do i calibrate this guage?

It has to be checked against a known pressure. The fact that all cylinders are even is the significant issue.

That's right. Do yourself a favor and just erase the numbers off your gauge. Just pay attention to the tick marks. Your motor will tell you when the compression is too low, not the gauge. Sluggish cold start by itself is NOT a low compression issue. If it idles normally, dollars-to-donuts your compression is just fine.

Some years J/Ebuilt a whole series of low-compression motors. Like 90 to 95 lbs new.

As long as they are all relatively even and the engine starts, compression is not an issue.

you ask what the compression for your motor was, the answer was for your motor, not the lower compression motors. how about some results of the test you have been ask to do. without the results of test we know nothing other than speculation. you are our eyes and ears, you have to tell us the results, there is a step by step method of trouble shooting.

to test the primer, just disconnect the primer hose on the carb, pump up the bulb as if starting till hard, key to on, push the key in and gas will come out the little hose. the red lever has to be in the automatic position. this is a primer solenoid like yours see where the red lever is situated, this is the automatic setting, 90* off this, is the manual setting, as manually choking the motor.

THanks Daddy.

I did the test - 90 psi on all four holes +/- 2 or 3 psi difference between all four. I will re-check with another guage.

How do u know my donk was not one of those low compresson models that was referrred to?

When I tested for compression, I did not pull the lanyard switch to disable the ignition system. Could I have fried the CD units or coils?

I also ran without plugs and without water - could i have dried/cooked my water pump impellor?

without water, the impeller is probably fried. remember i have the manual for that motor, and have owned and worked on many motors.

Daddy,

To clarify, when I tested for compression I had all plugs out. Would I have still fried my impellor even though I was not cranking any load on pistons..?
