Re: public launch sites handicap accessible

I guess it is just me. I will guarantee you I am in a lot worse shape than most of those who use handicap parking simply because they get out of breath or have a little back pain. I am 65 years old, 100lbs overweight, smoked for 40 years, have diabetes, have had bypass surgery and have 2 stents in my heart but I refuse to use a handicaped space. My wife is 10 times as capable as I am but she has a handicap card hanging from her rear view mirror. I refuse to let her use it while I am in the vehicle.

Not trying to diss you but if you need a parking permit just because you have problems hauling a cooler from your truck to your boat you need to rethink things. Put the cooler in the boat before you leave home.

Gator, sheesh. First, I don't have a handicapped sticker, either. Don't need one (yet), so I don't have one. As for 'simply because I get out of breath'... there's no 'simply' about it. Put a plastic bag over your face sometime, hold it there for a few minutes, and tell me how it felt.

Finally, simpleton, my boat is docked. Explain how I'd load the cooler aboard before I leave home. You want to play the 'my disability is bigger than yours', go right ahead. Obviously, yours doesn't affect your mobility or ability to use of all your limbs, so put a cork in it.

Now I'm getting really PO'd, so done with this thread. Sorry for the rant, all

ALSO if you're 100 lbs overweight you need to eat less and stop complaining about the parking spaces that you "refuse to use"
If you want to use them then get the tag.... If you don't then leave them for those who do.

Back on topic:

After re-reading the original post it appears to me that the O/P may not even be a boater at all.... If that is the case then this is a whole different discussion.... Fishing piers commonly DO have railing and docks don't.... Docks are NOT the place to be fishing and honestly the only reason to be on a dock is to access a boat.

What is the specific challenge that's keeping me off a boat? What can I do to meet that challenge, before looking to anyone else for a solution?'

Knocked it outta the park!

If a guy is capable of launching a boat does he really need a special parking space?

They sure do at the launch I use. Handicap spot is 30 feet from the ramp, the other spots are 1/4 mile up a big hill ;)
