Any restoration of 16 S/S early 75 vintage. Did anyone take a photo of the short bow wood frameing?? Mine was toast and I am about ready to prime the deck.and top side. I have a lot of paint to remove from the sides and the bottom. I will get it at least down to origional then sand and prime. I may go with a Crimson and Gray combination .If I can figure a way to color the rubber trim which is blue around the rails. The line holders were also Blue trimed and the bow light from Perco. What has me curious is if there is any wood showing on the bow below the sight line? Thanks more photos as I get further along.

I haven't replaced these on my 16' SS yet so if you need more photos I can help you out.

Have you been catching salmon out there this spring in your big boat yet?

yes yes Thats it. Could you do a photo from the point of the bow to the vinal covered board. Mine is gone and only the two long boards from the bow to the yellow thing are there. How long does it take to remove old paint LOL It sure has my attention but I have gotten to the bare Aluminum in a few places. I have not been out fishing as there have been almost daily gale winds in the Straight of Georga in the San Juan Islands. Later is ok to fish, as I really enjoy working on the boat, I cant wait till I can at least prime it so my other half can see what it may look like. Thank you much for the offer Ed

Puget, I used a piece of cardboard to make a template, then transfered that to 3/4 in plywood. I made the piece almost the same size as the whole area under the bow deck so I had something solid to mount my trolling motor on.

Good idea dozer, I am considering something similar...has anyone put additional foam up under the bow? I thought it may be a good spot to stash some extra flotation and would help keep the bow up if swamped.

Here are a couple of pics from mine, which i just removed. I found that it was real easy to remove if you just take the whole front deck off and remove the screws and pop it out like the transom board. Hope this helps. If you need measurements, I will get them for you after i get home from bowling tonight.

Waaa You have a nice warm place to work. The weather has much of my work on hold to the Hull. I have to remove as much old paint as I can to get this ready for a new paint job. Aircraft and citris remover will not work very well in 35-39 degree weather. Plenty of other things to do . I can take the metal shields in the shop and get them ready for primer. Hopeshefloats --did a complete strip down to the aluminum before he primed and painted. I think the factory did what you did. they added the bow cover last. About the onley way to get to the screws and theres only rivits holding he bow cover on. Your boat looks like a similar project. Lots of work (love ) goes into this. Thanks for the Photos. I also had to cut the motor tilt things off with a saws all as every thing was exposed to the elements for 8 years. I will also have to replace the steering cable as it to was frozen in the tilt tube. The Motor was completely rebuilt. It is a 50 hp I will some day want more power as my 22 Holiday has a 200 O/B on it and very fast.

Yes, I do love my mancave. The unheated pole barn side is 35' x 50' and it is attached to my heated and airconditioned 24' x' 32' workshop. My neighbors call it the GarageMajal If you need any measurements just let me know I plan on being in there all night tonight, got to get this hull sanded down and ready for paint.

If you removed paint what did you use???? I may need to have a rough measurment on the Top piece towards the front buywThere must be a way to measure this . Im not that far along yet. Removed all deck snaps and acessories so its ready to sand. I could destroy whoever put this s--t paint all over every thing. LOL Good luck Im sure you will just skip along regardles of the weather. Oh are you going to close the bow or do you have other plans??

Hey Ed, if some bead blasting would help remove paint on some small stuff I could maybe help you out on that.. I will be working a shutdown for a few weeks and there will not be much playtime for me but the bad blaster is at work ??? Just a thought .........

Jim I bought a large sander/grinder at the Pawn shop for $25 and some 9" 250 grit sandpaper did most of one side in a hour and no caustic stuff used. Im on the right track. Cleaned it down to the Aluminum. The small items do not have the mess of paint on them so will sand smooth and primerwhile there off of thr boat. Thank you for the offer it is much appriciated, Try to russel my neighbor set up some Arden boxs and turn this thing over. It is totaly empty. then sand off the bottom.smooth tack it and prime it. I might even put a finish coat of paint or two while its upside down. I need to do some trailer work and a coat osfsome paint on it , sure would be nice to have a set of bunks instead of the rollers.

Hope to show you mine this summer. I had it out a few weeks ago for a shake down cruise and I heard Big Lake was doing ok for fish ( Lie !!? ) Anyway --- ran like a champ with the old 115 Suzuki and way to fast for me - holly cow ......

You be real carefull on the shut down at the refinary. Be Safe. Thank you again for the offer. I can see you zipping across big lake. I went out last summer to test the boat and a young fellow had a real nice boat and kept passing me then let me catch up . Did this several times and then I just told my self see ya later alligator and opened up the 22 holiday with the well trimed 200 on the back. I did not get to laugh at the Guy as he was to far back to soon. I shut it down when it got to 50 on the GPS. These light hulls really go with power. Nice to have on the salt if the weather gets bad. sure seems much closer and they will ride out the rough stuff if needed. Remember Be Carefull on the job. Ed

Glad to hear you represent Starcraft well on the water, that 200 sounds like a great OB for your 22'

BTW you may just get me converted to OMC outboards after all...my uncle has a late '70s 75hp 'Rude he offered to give me after this season

And I love my '55 5.5hp Johnson also

Have not done much on the rebuild as no hurry and waiting for better warmer weather. I did tip the boat over and started the bottom paint removal. Whoever had this covered a lot of the bottom with BONDO and then painted over it. A few of the rivits I have exposed are worn down but do no seem to have leaked ( mabey it was the BONDO ) Anyway how effective is the glovet, applied on both sides, to prevent leaks???? I will test the boat in the water before I try any Paint it . Do not want to ever again try to remove many colors of paint. Do I need to consider replacment of rivits or see if the glovet will do the job. Ed

Bondo! I have either bondo or JB Weld covering about ten rivets on mine. Obviously these previous owners were not Iboats/Starcraft guys. I'm really lucky to have found this forum! Keeps me from crazy fixes that don't work.

I wonder who the first Gluvit pioneer on this forum was? There is a lot of knowledge here and it just keeps growing.

How are you stripping the paint off? I missed it, was it bead blasting or chemicals? Get out your decoder ring and post some pics.

Aircraft stripper and a citris stripper also a wire brush. I used a sander wheel where there are no rivits as to not wear the heads off. Worked well on the sides. Ill take some more photos today and post as well as some others I have,and tru to updadt to thread. Is the glovet the best solution??
