Re: Puget Sound 16 S/S

Ill give gluvit a try and then fill the open boat before I prep for paint. This is one job I really don't like. But the results should be well worth the cost and effort, thank you all for the ongoing advise.

Gluvit is easy to apply, just use a normal paint brush and slap it on thick, or do two light coats as recommended, I did one so I wouldn't screw up the hardener mix ratio;)

Keep in mind that it wants to creep downhill, so it helps to angle the hull properly to allow it to fill all seams and voids where leaky rivets may be hiding.

Puget have you been out on the big rig at all or just working hard?:D

Re: Puget Sound 16 S/S

Been busy doing house things . Had a fifty year anaversary the end of Feb . then company from Boise for a few days then Birthday for wife and now just replaced our Van with a new one waiting for delivery. Also traded in my Suburban and bought a conversion van I have wanted for 8 years. It is a 1987 Dodge in wonderful condition with 51 K actual miles on it. Lady always said she might just give it to me. Well Darn well did only cost 500 bucks and had a tune up new battery and a full tank of gass. The big boat is at my back door but the wind and Low tides mid day make it very iffy to try to go out on the Sound. I really want to get at least the bottom of the 16 ready with gluvit and bottom paint then I can trailer it and paint the sides, which are ready.. Then the fun begins in puting every thing where it belongs ( I Hope ) LOL I think I will Use the metal filler or get some aluminum from West marine and smoth out the few rivits that wory me before I glovit them . Is it proper to do both the outside and inside with the glovit. I dont want to do this again. Thanks Ed

Re: Puget Sound 16 S/S

Ed, most people just use Gluvit on the interior but it can be used on exterior. There is a forum (somewhere) that a guy used it on the complete outside hull. If you are concerned about the rivots go ahead and gluvit them while its easy to do. I have been told it's overkill, but better safe than sorry. I feel your concern as the last thing you want to re-do is strip paint, or worse, worry about a leak after she is put together. Gluvit can be painted too. Congrats on the van! Dale

Re: Puget Sound 16 S/S

Way behind on a update on my 16 SS. Have been in no hurry and the weather is just starting to warm up enough to finish the paint removal and sealing the hull. Have it upside down and want to finish the prime and paint then back on the trailer ,which I will repaint, and finish the upper paint and refitting of parts. Sure hope I remember what went where. I will have a few days home alone so will try to figure the photo thing. It really baffels me. Photos will follow after the 14 th. of May then I will feel better. The holiday running like the Champ she is. Still haven't even considered any restro. work on the 22 holiday as it seems a waste of time unless something comes up not working.. Hope you all will have a wonderfull summer and have a great time AT TINSTOCK Later Ed

Re: Puget Sound 16 S/S

You are in the enviable position of having one boat that runs and one you can work on. Why rush, savor every moment of your resto on the 16 footer. I want to fish, I want to work on my other boat, your choice.

I on the other hand need to remind myself to relax, this is supposed to be fun. This is why I bought an oldie and not a new boat. I like working on things. Self imposed deadlines can take the fun out of it. Mine gets done when it gets done. When I look at it I'll know that I brought her back from the dead.

Keep up the good work, relax, enjoy.

Re: Puget Sound 16 S/S

Ed let me know if you need any pictures or anything...my boat is identical so let me know. I did end up with two pieces of aluminum that I couldn't make heads or tails of when I started reassembling mine:rolleyes:

Do you have pictures on photobucket or another hosting website? We can help out to get some posted.

I agree, do not touch the Holiday until the SS is on the water. So nice for you to have two Starcrafts:D I have a 12 footer and a canoe.

There are several people here that offerd help with photos. I think the big problem is the Mivicia camra it uses floppy discs.Iit is fairly old and not up to date on transfering things,. Enjoy the summer they are never long enough. Ed

Ed you could get a digital camera that's light years more advanced than yours on craigslist for like $30.

I should steal one of my wifes she has a couple of newer ones that use the micro chip things. She goes to Dog Shows and take a lot of photos for potential homes for the Yorkies. and Chinese Cresteds. I will look on craigs list. Good suggestion Thanks

Re: Puget Sound 16 S/S

I am about to paint the bottom of the 16 ss what, by brand name do I buy for etching with Zink and what paint to use . It wont be left in the salt water and mabey never used there, I think I will go with close to org. colors as I want no bleed thru where there is still some base color. I will Glovit the outside rivits as well as the inside when I turn it over.I will paint the outside upper with final color when the interior is done. I have the motor back together and it runs very well. This rebuild is like the rest you have seen. And I will post pic. when there is something to show . Right now its like a girlfriend stand them on there head they all look alike. Its when you add the good stuff that makes it worth while to see. Color-- Dark Blue and some white trim. Mabey add some graphics.

Gluvit has a tendency to run, so if you do use it on outside try to use just enough to cover the rivet and watch for runs.

Hey there PS..
I'd love to see that 22 ftr flying past @ 50 plus mph..WOW..Ye-HAAAA
As far as etching primer...North Beachs Liquid Limo thread could be your bible..He used a green Zinc Chromate..You need that for bare alum..which if I read right your hull is now??
As far as paint..you have to make a choice of oh say a ga-zillion different choices (a ga-zillion is slightly more than a Brazillion, btw)
I used rustoleum, Ez used real paint..check his thread..Its really up to you how much you want to $$$$..

ummmm..pictures...stand her on her head..I wanna see!

Kev you have to realize that that 200 Johnson on that 22 ft hull has a lot of push. Right now It is tamed down with a smaller prop. North Beech 's restro is like WOW. I do not have the facilities he has and will have to roll the paint on outside, weather permiting. I certianly will not spend big $$$ on the project. It will look nice and be very functional when I finish. I plan minimal floattion in the bottom as I have never put myself in a positiion to have to swim to shore. And to D--- old to start now Very active and able to do the things I want but with reservation as 73 years has taken a little toll. I will send a photo of the girl, of her standing on her head.LOL I ordered the glovit today and sure as h--- get angry with the excessive price people lead you to believe it costs to ship. Then prime and rustolum paint, how about a Crimsom and Gray color combo. Enjoy the Tin Stock get together.
. right now my wife is in Oklahoma City on buisness. Drove there in 31/2 days.
