Pull Drive @29 hours?

I purchased an 05 Sea Ray with Alpha drive in October. I have no idea if the previous owner had the drive pulled to check alignment.

My question is, do you think I should make an appointment to have the drive pulled and the alignment checked @ 29 hours? How much should I expect to pay to have his done??​

i don't think the hours are relevent. per the service manual, it'd be every 100 hours or yearly inspection for gimble brg, ujoints, coupler splines bellews inspection hose clamp inspection, and alignment.......

Hmmmmmm, I was under teh impression that after the initial 20-25 hour break-in period that the drive should be pulled and then every 100 or so hours afterwords.???
Am I misunderstanding?​

yers is a '05, this is '08..........that's the way i see it anyways.........

I wish I was comfortable checking and aligning the drive myself. It would help to have the drive alignment tool also...

There should be nothing to align, you are merely checking....
Alignment can ( & should) outlast a drive & engine....
Unless you have transom/stringer issues....
Pulling & inspecting the ujoints, gimbal, alignment, etc. will cost about $200.00......
If you have the mechanical aptitude & ain't afraid of a wrench, I would purchase an alignment tool, a grease gun & familiarize yourself with your drive.....
You will save thousands over the life of your boat if you can perform the simple yearly PM on your own....

Haut....I agree with you 100 %. I am thinking I amy just pull the drive since I already have a seal kit sitting here. If I remember correctly, making sire the drive is shifted in Forward makes things much easier. I already have a tube of Ujoint and spline grease as well as gimble grease.
Is there a zerk for the coupler s well? Where is it on an Alpha?​

sounds like yer already to do the deed sr. ya just need that bar. get one. ya won't be sorry. wish i'd have got one right away when i got into i/o's. money well spent wherever..

No, just grease the splines of the input shaft, do not put any on the end....

You might want to build one of these first, to save your back. Makes it alot easier to get it off and on and is nice to keep it stored upright during the winter. I put adjustible casters under it so I could get the height right.
