Hi guys, just a quicky, thats what I said to the missus :), but can you do a compression test by pull starting it, as I am not sure the motor I want to test has a starter.

I would say depending on the HP since you need 3-5 good compression strokes/pumps IMO. We have pull started up to 85hp when needed (and younger) which means we got compression. I personally w/n like to ck large hp w/o a good starter.

Probably would be OK on a smaller motor like a 2 cylinder or smaller. Not sure it would be OK on a 3 cylinder or larger. I guess it depends on how long your rope is and how fast/long you can pull.

Re: Pull start compression Test

Thanks guys, my back is buggered anyway so it wasn't my ideal way to do it, I phoned the bloke today and he advises me it does have a starter, I will only need a tilt trim motor which I may have spare atm, as I got another for my 100hp. Let you guys know how it pans out whether I get it or not, just loving having my chrysler at home.

Re: Pull start compression Test

Of course you can pullrope test the engine, BUT be careful if you have a bad back. You may do about 10 strokes instead of 4-5, but when the tester do not give a higher value even if you pull ....... that is the counting value.
You does not get a higher value if the crankspeed increase!!!!
