pull start electric start conversion

Hi everyone there has to be an expert out there with an answer to my problem , I have a 1988 25hp mercury outboard motor with a pull start, I want o convert to an electric start, Ive seen a number of you tube examples but not a lot of information on the parts needed, mercury has an antique parts list and some of the numbers match I am leery on ordering online due to the fac tif its the wron part I have to go through the aggravation of trying to get money back and sending the part back, Im in ontario any info would be appreciated

The kit is expensive. Your best bet is to find a parts motor I have had good luck finding pontoon motors that people wreck. Most of those have electric start. You will need a ring gear for the flywheel and the starter motor, a solenoid and starter switch. The starter switch is mostly NOS now but the kits can be found. You will also need a neutral safety switch.

thanks Scott for the quick reply, I only posted yesterday, I am keeping my eye out for a parts motor, a marina did quote me on the necessary parts but were even more expensive than actual mercury prices , Ill keep looking , glad I posted on this forum I think its going to be perfect for advice thanks again

Your location in Ontario ?----What marina quoted you the high prices.----I may know where to find the parts.

hey Racerone, 17 marine horsehoe valley road just north of Barrie 15 mins , thats where I got prices from ,in actual fact they seemed to be more than mercury original parts but maybe I was looking at old mercury prices Im in that area Barrie Collingwood Ont Id appreciate any information on parts thanks again
