So I stopped at my local marine repair place to get chummy with the guys now that I have a project boat and am looking for advice. When I tell them that I think I may need to repair the transom they tell me I have to pull the motor to do the repair. Do I really need to pull my I/O to do a repair on the transom? I have a 1979 closed bow Sea Ray with a Mercruiser 898.
I have yet to explore around the transom to know how bad things are but just curious if they(the local shop) is yanking my chain. If I do have to pull the motor any advice on how to do it? I am renting a backhoe to do a little excavation at the house...maybe hang a nice size chain off the bucket... As my wife would say..."I'll have the video camera rolling!"
