So I pulled my twin 4.3's yesterday from my Searay 290 DA..... I was not sure what I would find regarding a water leak behind the port motor...
And of course I could find no evidence of where the leak is coming from.... Definitely something leaking, but not really sure where from, and how to
determine what I should do.... I did remove the y-pipes,,, the port lower bolts seemed to be a bit loose, but not sure if that would do it....
That is however where I thought it was leaking from.... Y-pipes look to be in good shape as well.... Any ideas as to how to determine what is going on??
TIA

What will come right in if the bolts are not tight enough, there is just an O-ring between the two. Did you take it off and inspect the outfaces/o ring?

Quick glance looked okay.
I will inspect more closely in a bit.

considering the drives are removed, stuff rags into the exaust port and exaust reliefe ports and fill the Y pipe with water

If surfaces look good and the O-ring is not damaged then that is probably not the issue. Take a screw drive and try and push into the transom from the inside to see if there is any soft spots. Push hard, a screw driver can do nothing to a solid transom.

If it's all solid then start looking at the boots

Put the y pipes back on, install the drives, and back it in the water at the ramp., look for leaks then. You should find it that way.

Mine has the trim lines, at the bottom of the outdrive gimbal housing where they attach, that block has a gasket. Mine was bad, and after I replaced all the bellows, it still leaked. Could have saved a bunch of time that summer by finding the bad gasket right away.

Is that gasket available? does that block just unbolt? I think you may be on to something with this.....
