Do I need to pull the bottom end off or can I fix it where the 2 rods connect up top? Thanks in advance.

Do you mean you pulled it off and you now have no gears ? Can’t quite get what you mean from the above. If that’s what you mean, did you connect up the selector mid shaft again ?

Sorry. I pulled the bottom end off to change the impeller. put it all back together. Boat went in the water today. Started first pull but when I shifted it in to forward (shifter is on the handle) it was in revers. Then I put it in reverse and it was also reverse. That make sense?

Ok. Got you now. Not totally familiar with this particular engine but is there a access hole half way down the shaft casing to access the linkage that you had to undo

No, that linkage is right right under the engine, I can get to it by taking off the engine cover. I can get a picture if it will help.

Hi QBhoy,
You were correct, There is the linkage on the leg as well as the attachment at the top. Please see 2 images attached.

From the picture it looks correct. When you shift into reverse it should move the lever and lock onto the tilt pin.
