Hi everyone, thought i would stop my worrying and ask here, because all of you boat nuts have always helped.I got a 1977 Thompson Del-ray,Mercruiser 898 Engine,898 Outdrive. The lower shift cable stranded us out on the river lastyear,it locked us into reverse.I finally got it out and back into forward,to get back to the dock.

The question I got is I finally got around to pulling the outdrive to replace the lower shift cable, but wasn't sure if I got it all the way in forward or not.The outdrive came off pretty easy, have been worrying the past 2 days if it was all the way in forward.Found that my lower shift cable is melted right where the exhaust bellow should be.

If its not out of forward all the way,am i going to have a problem putting a different outdrive back on the boat,as I have a outdrive i purchased over the winter, and got new seals, and waterpump housing, impeller and pressure tested.

I am also replacing the ujoint bellow,5/8 waterhose (13")and the gimble bearing while i am in here.Help me out guys, all responses are welcome.I have some pictures of some of the process, will get those up when i get home,Thanks for the help in advance.
