Pulling and tab question

Chalking this up to my boat owner rookieness and stupidity, so take it easy on me :)

I've done the research on pulling issues, and have decided to slightly adjust the tab to see if it will correct my severe right pull. The tab as I view is now is definitely turned to the left a few clicks, so I'll be moving it rightward.

At issue:

The stingray fin that I installed on my boat has 2 of the small 4 bolts going through the "groove" of the trim tab (?) round plate that rotates when you make the adjustment (I wasn't paying attention when I drilled:eek:). I'll have to take those 2 bolts out to adjust the tab. It's not a problem to adjust the tab, but to re-install the fin, I'll need to re-drill the holes after I rotate the plate (just the two holes through the groove again).

The boat pulled right (particularly harder at lower speed, and trimmed down) before I installed the fin. So, the fin has definitely helped me get on plane quicker, but didn't affect the pull for better or worse.

Will it be okay to re-drill the 2 holes through the grove and install the fin? I know some of you don't like the fins, but that's another topic ;)

God bless to all and good boating. Keith

Re: Pulling and tab question

Well I'll try and not discuss the hydrofoil . . . uh, but . . . still trying . . . but it su . . . can't do it. Get rid of the hydrofoil and readjust the trim tab. I saw on your first post/thread that you were gonna take it off . . . Why haven't you? No matter what, the combo of the trim tab and the hydrofoil will change the way the trim tab behaves. I know it doesn't seem like the problem changed (pulling) when you put on the winged creature, but you really don't know what's gonna happen after an adjustment. Also, you're going to end up with more holes. Before this thing becomes a block of Swiss cheese, why not take it off, do the adjustment (you can do this in the water from a dock or beach easy enough), try it and then decide on the foil. You don't want to adjust, drill more holes, and then find out you didn't go far enough. From the way it sounds it may take a fairly large adjustment. The trim tab will never be perfect as certain speeds and loads and trim change how it affects the wheel. I could see you making 3, 4 or more mini-adjustments before you find the sweet spot . . . ;) Good luck!!!

Re: Pulling and tab question

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I definitely wouldn't have drilled final holes back in the plate until I found the right spot.

I'll run it awhile without the creature and see how she goes. Other than looks, I'm assuming that it'll be okay just to leave the holes in there for a while until I make a final decision.

Thanks again. God bless & good boating to you.
