Mike, I replaced the pan and timing cover on my 4.3LX last summer. I looked in the salvage yards, nada, I went to NAPA, nada. Mercruiser wanted $175, but I bought a chromed automotive pan from a speed shop online for $49. The gaskets are the automotive version, and are available anywhere. NAPA had a timing cover and seal set for$25. Pan was identical to OEM Mercruiser, except it was a bit more shallow. I needed to bend the oil pump pickup (with my hand) up about 1/2 inch. Timing cover fit perfectly. I painted both with rustoleum rusty metal primer (brush it on, it's the best) and black spray enamel.

Hey guys, just getting started today. Should it be obvious where the engine lifting eyes are? From reading the manual it sounds like it should, but I got down to the boat and only found 2 very close to each other, one large one on top of the thermostat (with "LE" on the bolts...lifting eye?) and another smaller one just to the left bolted onto the intake manifold that looks too rusty to trust. I'm guessing I should use the big one and another someplace near the aft end of the engine around where the distributor is but there doesn't seem to be anything useful. Where is it?!<br /><br />THANKS,<br />mike

Use the Large 1 at the T-stat,........"LE" is probaly a "rating" stamp for the bolts....<br /><br />If you can't find the Rear Eye,....<br />Remove the smaller 1 from the intake manifold,+ Move It to the Rear Intake Manifold Bolts.......<br /><br />I've pulled Many motors by just attaching a Chain to Any 1 of the Intake Bolts that I needed to Balance the motor.....<br />In Other Words,....... Any 2 of the Intake Bolts will Easily Support the Weight of the Engine.........

Thanks Bondo, I noticed LE on a couple of other bolts as well...Sounds good. I am going to try right now. I'll hopefully put up some pictures once the blizzard starts later and I have to come inside :-(<br /><br />Mike.
