Someone once told me that pulling plug wires with the engine running to determine problem areas is a good way to damage the power pack.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I've pulled a few thousand of them with no powerpack damage.

Re: pulling plug wires damages power pack?

I always pulled them on on my crossflow motors without incident; first time I did it on my 1988 looper I burned the powerpack. I called CDI (It was Rapair then) and they said not to pull plugs on the running CD ignition.

Right or wrong I have not repeated the mistake, it costs too much and cost me a day on the water as well.
