Removing my 1987 Alpha drive- the drive will come off about 1 1/2". The shift shafts are all aligned so I went deeper- cut the bellow and can see the gimbal ring bearing inner race is stuck on the drive shaft (it has pulled away from the bearing race). It does not appear to have failed (the bearing). I read about the procedure to remove the drive (leaving the universal) and then remove the snap ring and bearing... but before I go there.. any other help is appreciated!

Re: Pulling the drive..

the cable is not hung up is it??

you may try some wood blocks as levers and use two to evenly pull the drive out if you can spray some wd40 or other oil on the shaft to losen the rust on the bearing and wait over nite

it would be better to pull out the bearing with the drive than to disturb the shims in the upper

tommays
