Pulling the old motor - OMC 165 L6 250

and I need to know if I HAVE to pull the bell housing/rear motor mounts off in order to do so. It is coming out of my '73 Grady White 212 Chesapeake and has the OMC 165 Outdrive/Intermediate housing.<br /><br />I'd much rather unbolt the motor from the bell housing and take the 4 bolts off the front end (off of the motor mount there) and pull it. The only thing I'm not sure about is if the flywheel (or anything else in the housing) will prevent me from doing so.<br /><br />Doing it this way (I think) will keep me from having to disconnect the 2 wiring harnesses and some other solenoid wiring as well as the fact that I just don't want to mess with the stringers/mounts if I don't have to. Today, I disconnected everything necessary to pull it if "my way" works.<br /><br />The new motor, manifold, riser, starter, alternator, thermostat (and upper/lower housings), water pump, fuel pump, distributor, gaskets, etc, etc, etc have been ordered today and I can't wait to have ALL NEW POWER IN HER!!!<br /><br />Thanking you in advance,<br /><br />Duke

The intermediate shaft has a spline going into a coupler on the back of your flywheel, so it will just slide out....If the bearings and preload are great in your intermediate housing, it will slide back in too... If they aren't real tight , the shaft wont go back in when you try to reinstall the engine... also that would need attention if those bearings are loose.

Intermediate housing is already off. I can look into the bellhousing from the back and see the recepticle (coupling) for the intermediate shaft (as well as the bolts that hold it to the flywheel). I replaced the bearings and seals in / on the intermediate shaft last year and ran the boat 2X since replacing those, so I'm "good to go" there!<br /><br />I gather by what you say, I can leave the bellhousing installed?<br /><br />Thanks for the response, by the way! I can't wait for the new parts to get here! Now I just need to build the "a-frame" to pull / install motors with!

I did, when I changed engine... expect some scraped knuckles bolting it back up. Tight quarters.

Thanks guys... <br /><br />Scraped knuckles... small price!<br /><br />I'll take pictures of the process and start a new post on the "ordeal"! (Though I'm sure I'll ask a new question or two upon installation)!
