Pulling tube/skiing behind old Johnson?

1972 50HP Johnson...dumb question I guess but the motor is on a Terry bass boat, but would pulling a person on a tube and/or ski's work this motor too hard?

Fear not, it is perfectly capable of that task. Only thing that might overload it is a way over-pitched propeller. Only way to tell that is with a tachometer.

The more important thing to worry about is the strength of the transom in the boat. Make sure it is in good condition before you put that kind of load on it.

That's a good point. But if the transom is too weak for that, I wouldn't be going out in that boat anyway. But I know that a lot of people would. Some of them even drown.

I saw an old-school video where they were factory testing the outboards by strapping 'em to a dock and running 'em wide open. Trying to pull heavy loads shouldn't harm anything.. In fact, your motor will welcome the challenge! :)
