The BF for 1k+ looks like a great option in my book. Then find a donor motor.

From what I have learned what they put below the deck is much more substantial than what SC had in them.

Thanks for the link, fishby. Great to have some true facts on my new enthusiasm! Osby---> very innaresting! Any context for that thought (the belowdecks comment)? Your encouragement motivates me to get off the couch and mosey on down to get a few more pics and a closer look at the Fin. I mentioned that the entire deck as well as the inside surface of the transom is exposed plywood, weathered and open to the elements. i should bring a hammer along . . . give the deck a real going-over!

Question: what would be a reasonable price range for a working 90-ish hp Johnson or Merc. say from the late 80s? I think an 18 deserves a 90 at least. This seller does have a 100 Merc he wants to replace with a 4-stroke . . . . . hmmmmm

Motors are all over the pricing map, hard to say. Donor boats are still the best bet.

Agreed, I've been looking for a 75 - 90 hp engine for my buddy for months and I can't seem to find hardly anything out there reasonably. The best options I've seen have been attached to rotted fiberglass tri hulls and such.

Ya, that's what concerns me. So am I thinking straight?: if the hull/trailer is worth, let's say, $1,100 or so . . . so now I pitch for the boat/trailer with the Merc 100 included (I also prefer Rude John)- would I be nutz to go in at $2200? To help you with your decision :))) I attach pics - interior and stern (with the silly 35 tacked on the back for giggles). Notice the flooring, and the totally retro padded dash and side boards. Should I keep these almost-art-deco features?
Here you go:

I should maybe mention I am now considering pedestal helms for driver and passenger with lengthwise side-to-side facing pontoon benches at the rear. And wondering how to treat old ply or should I replace it even if it's solid? For flooring I like vinyl or bubbly paint over carpet. No carpet. I'm thinking I may not spring for a canopy . . .

wow. it does look like the first resto was done by the hot rod shop, but not sure keeping that is an option given its condition. i think 2200 would be pretty high for that rig needing complete resto (if seats and side panels are wasted, odds are that floors and transom are too....floors certainly look due for replacement in pix). i'd offer him more like 12-1500 for the whole rig.

I wish we had tinnies littering the landscape up here like in MI and WI. But the bottom line is - these boats from the 70s won't attract much more than $2500-3000 even after a nice restore. I guess we'll see how reasonable the owner is . . .
