1996 starcraft fishmaster 170, 75hp mercury. I think I can get this boat for a good price--it is not used much, very nice cond. But, it has not been run in two year--old guy had it and passed away--his son is selling. I checked comp. 125psi on all three cylinders and very good spark. Hard to start and idles high, rough and "pops". I think it needs carbs cleaned up, old gas removed, and run. I made him an offer as is. Question should I leave this one? Or if I buy is cleaning the carbs a big job--even if I paid a mech. to do it right--what would it cost? It really is a shame people do not take care of their stuff. He had the carbs cleaned last fall but never got the old gas out. This boat looks new, he is asking $9,000 I offered $7,000, and it is close to my house--hard to find this type of boat used where I live. I am going from a 89 lund tyee 1750 is the starcraft a comparable boat? Quality construction?
