Lets get something straight before we begin. Yes, I am a Honda dealer, I also sell Tohatsu, both good things in the right application. I am, however, based in Australia, so my chances of selling anyone an outboard are bugger all.<br /><br />The Evinrude /Bomb motors are superb, and are backed by one of the largest corporate giants around. They seem to have solved most of their OMC gremlins, which gave them such a bad name for a while there. Not sure about over there, but here, a lot of dealers have dropped OMC products, since they went bust, and dropped the warranties, etc. This has lead to the larger dealers in areas keeping with Merc, Yamaha, Honda, etc, and the OMC dealerships being awarded to the smaller shops. Basically nothing wrong with that, except when it comes to servicing/repairing what is a fairly sophisticated engine, some smaller shops do not have the recources, in the form of FICHT trained mechanics, and specialised tools, etc.<br />Please note that I am not knocking small dealers, or their products, but it is probably a good idea to check out the local dealer fairly thoroughly, before you buy, talk to his mechanics, etc. Most dealers will have no problem with this, we find that it actually increases sales.<br />Performance wise, the FICHT engines are right up there with the best of them, although our Australian Seaworld recently changed over to 225 Hondas, and are getting the same levels of performance as the FICHT engines were delivering.<br />Obviously, each engine has its own strengths and weaknesses, so good luck<br /><br />Regards, Paul
