17'Seaswirl, 95 115 hp Evinrude crossflow
Had water in my oil tank. Removed pickup assembly
from tank and cleaned tank and reinstalled. Never
disconnected oil line from motor. Now I need to purge the air if any, I don't think there is much, the bulb stayed hard while I was cleaning the tank. I didn't bleed the line.
My problem is when I got the boat I had water in the gas tank. I tried to pump it dry and filled up every
thing I had with old gas. Pumped about 27 gallons out and never reached the bottom. I finally put a gas/water filter on. I guess the tank is somewhere between 30 and 35 gal, maybe more. If I mix oil with the gas I know I will have to add at least 6 quarts of oil and I'm not sure that will be enough. If I get a 6 gal tank and mix oil in it there will probably still be enough gas in the lines and filter to probably run 5 minutes before the gas from the 6 gal tank reaches the VRO2 and that would not be good right?
Any way I'm looking for advice.
Thanks for any help
Jim

Re: Purging Air From VRO2

If you had water in the oil tank, there may be water in the oil line, oil primer ball, and in the "VRO" pump, and that does not lubricate your motor very well.

Remove the oil line from the pump inlet and hold it over a container and squeeze the ball several times until clean fresh oil comes out without any air bubbles. Install the hose with correct clamp (322654) and give a light squeeze on the ball to prime it. Run a 50:1 mixture for a while to make sure the pump is operating.
