Anyone know the function of this check valve downstream of the PS cooler in my cooling system? Wondering if it will prevent flow of antifreeze I pour down the thermostat hoses. Don I believe you gave me the picture last year...it was page 6B-8 in Oct. 2001 manual. Believe this is the same as the one I have.

Should I expect AF pouring down the sterndrive when I pour AF down the hoses of the thermostat?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

There is an aftermarket check valve that I bought for my 2001 that when the engine is turned off, it keeps hot engine coolant from flowing back down to the 'cool fuel' system and contributing to vapor lock. I think newer engines come with this check valve.

My check valve is between the PS cooler and the fuel cooler. If I pour AF down the thermostat hoses, will the check valve prevent flow to the PS cooler and out to the outdrive?

Try it and find out. Maybe use water with a food dye in it, maybe red food dye?

I also have the check valve on my engine, but never really thought about it's function...

Don't pour it in! Run it thru & there won't be any question?

Thanks Pete...I'm leaning that way cause I want to be sure the af goes by the check valve in the right direction. Not sure how well they seat to prevent flow in the opposite direction. Have the pail and hose ready for next weekend.
Thought it might be easier to drain the system and fill through the hoses at the thermostat...any other thougths?

If you live where it gets VERY cold, I do hope you are also draining the block and manifolds.

Just pouring glycol down into the t-stat housing will not get the stuff everywhere it needs to be.

(and we'll be lamenting right along with you next Spring when you post your "water-in-the-oil" thread)

Just saying.......

Rick, yes absolutely draining the block and manifolds before pouring In af...but can't convince myself the af will get through the check valve and to the ps cooler. This is why I may drain and use the af in the bucket method with ear muffs. I will try the dyed water suggested earlier to see if water will flow through the check valve and out the stern drive...any other thoughts welcome. Thank you for all your responses.
