I put a new choke selenoid and a new ing switch and she turns over but will not start!!! spark at both ends, flywhell off points look good strator looks and test out good recitifer sparks when i hook up the neg term! Help frank!!!

In my Glenn's repair manual the 55hp motor w/ magneto does not use the purple wire in the harness at all. If you have a rectifier on your motor and alternator the purple wire should be the lead for a charging indicator (green) light (Idiot light). Pretty sure indicator light was an option and would have to been ordered/installed by a previous owner. Sounds like your set up never had the indicator light installed. Might want to do that to maybe give you piece of mind. Hope this helps...

Glad I could be of some help. As to your other question, I'm not 100% sure just exactly what you are referring too. Might I suggest posting a picture or two to give others who might be better able to help you get a handle on what your problem may be.
I'm not an electrical guru, but if you have any connection producing a "spark" when connecting another terminal something is not good. You ought to disconnect your battery before attempting any service as you could accidently burn up some ignition components depending upon your motor etc. Good luck and let's see some photos!!

Purple with 12.5 volts is a power lead to the lights in the instrument panel. Grey and purple are used for the tach.Got grey?? Over the years the code changed about as often as they changed design.J
