I was having problems with my 1989 125 force outboard choke.I found the problem tobe in the push in choke ignition switch.I disconnect the choke wire from the ignition switch and strait wire a hot wire to a sepator switch. It closes the choke plates but the engine does not start.Does that choke wire have tobe connected to the ignition switch and cuse the engine not to start or do i have other problems?
thanks

Re: push in choke ignition switch

Sounds like there are other problems with the switch. Here's what to do: Back at the engine terminal board, disconnect the blue wire. Then jump a wire from the battery connection to the yellow wire side of the solenoid. If the starter and solenoid are ok, the engine will crank and fire. There will be a small spark when you jump the solenoid but it will be minimal if you do it firmly.
CAUTION with the blue wire disconnected, you can not stop the engine.

CAUTION This bypasses the neutral interlock. The engine can start in gear. BE SURE IT IS IN NEUTRAL or remove the prop or do both before attempting to start.

Touch the blue wire to the blue terminal or the black terminal to stop the engine.
If the engine fires and runs, replace the whole ignition switch. If it does not crank, fire, and run, the problem is somewhere else. Come back to the forum for further troubleshooting.
