Hello Boating folks :)
I definitely need some advice here ...please? from people who know boats (&what
they might be worth) as I have no idea if Im even in the ball park!
If a boat is totally new from inside out ...stringers, ribs? fiberglass, engine every wire etc
how do you find comparables? You cant compare to origional year but 'NEW' isnt quite
right either? Any Shamrock owners out there with an opinion? Appreciated

if wanted I cant write out what is installed & will try to add a pic but new at
this stuff :) Thanks, cat

JUST ADDED SOME PICS:

A lot depends on who did the work, the quality of the work and the quality and suitability of the materials used. Just replacing the items in need of repair is easy, using the right stuff, and knowing the correct process is the hard part and will determine the quality and life expectancy of the rebuild. That then determines the value of the boat.

You also fail to mention the year, style, size, engine, trailer and a slew of other information that goes into the pricing of a used boat. Shamrock is a good boat, but they can be mistreated just like any other.

actually, you can compare a redone old boat to a stock well maintained old boat. the value is still the same in the eyes of the insurance company and financial institutions.

as Bob's Garage mentioned, year, style, etc.

Old vehicles, including boats, have a range. For example, in fair condition, a vehicle might be worth $7800; in excellent condition, it might be worth $9600.

For the $9600 vehicle, it might have taken $10,000 more in care, feeding and top quality repairs/rehab than the $7800 vehicle received.

All you can do, unless it is a rare, rare exception, is push a vehicle to the top end of the given price range +/- a little bit. And if you're selling, and you feel your vehicle is truly excellent, then price it just above the top end of the range and proceed from there.

Again, unless you have some rare, rare case... that is pretty much how a used vehicle market works.

This is so true: "you can compare a redone old boat to a stock well maintained old boat" in that a redone boat is not worth more; more likely it is worth less. IOW you don't add value by doing work; you just prevent a decline in value, somewhat.

The exception is top-line restoration of a classic/collectible-that's an entirely different market.

Many believe that listing all the work you've done only emphasizes the problems the boat has had.

One thing going for you is that Shamrock has a following; not the same as selling a restored bayliner.

I think that really is key to whether or not you'll get a premium price. You'll need a buyer that simply loves that particular boat and is all excited that it's 'like new'.

Otherwise, it's what the other guys said. The rebuilds can be either a help or a hindrance to the sale, but not lucrative by any stretch. Spending money to put or keep a boat in safe/good operating condition doesn't pay dividends.- it's expected

Wow! Thanks for all the replies... all points taken. I uploaded a picture into my profile for reference
but dont know how to add any more into this area as they arent from a website (unless I use the listing
page from ebay or the other ad sites I used?) Can I add a link, is it allowed?

Well long story short here ...this was a close friends project (lifelong boater worked fiberglass/engine
repair basically his entire life) This was more a labor of love than a need & spent years on it then
...Life happened.
There are pictures of his entire refiberglassing process of which he reconstructed every inch. Over the
years Ive seen it transform from basically the finished shell (not a hole cut in it) to what it has become.
Iver never been a boater but if ever I was to be... its just a beauty. He was making a prototype of sorts.
Now Ive been given the task of selling it ...very very unfortunate but necessary. I do have a list of
everything (& I mean EVERYTHING) on it. As I was told, the unusual or not expected for this boat are
hydraulic steering, fresh water flush, raw water cooled, potty w/macerator, 351 ford engine.
Im not going to include the list right now ...for space conscienceness, but if it would help I will next time.

I would say it is 'new' as basically everything on it is (not re-installed anything but some vintage lights & few other things) It started as an 83' & is listed for $21,500 right now. What do you think? Im trying of course to get the best price I can for him but its a very unique craft.
Thanks for the listen and opinions, cat

FIGURED OUT HOW TO POST PICS ...SOME UP TOP ALSO
CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO ADD A WORD DOC LIST, SORRY

It looks great, but... I took a quick gander at my local CL. For a $20K asking price I can buy a number of name brand (I saw Wellcraft, Seaswirl and Pro-Line right away) 20-22' center consoles that're less than 10 years old. I'd be way more inclined to go in that direction.

This is where you need someone who's just gotta have a Shamrock, who'll believe you that all that rebuild work was done 100% 'right', and who either doesn't know or doesn't care that the motor is obsolete. Maybe there are more people like that than I think there are, but I wouldn't buy yours at anywhere near that price.

Sorry.

I went on Ebay to look for Shamrocks, and see your boat is listed there.

In order to get your price, you need to post AS MANY PICS AS POSSIBLE. Get a picture of everything on boat, especially what your friend has done to the boat. Hopefully he documented all of the restoration, ask him for the pics. Its great to hear that Totally refinshed/ constructed Heavy Duty fiberglass hull taken down to stringers Ribs added...all glass encased., but showing a few pics of the cleaned hull, Ribs and the encasement process will really sell it. You need to set the boat apart from the 1998 selling for 8K.

Hi Jolin- I do know exactly what you mean. I would expect that whoever was wanting to buy it would
give it a good inspection ...I would. Its actually not far from you?! :) East End LI. My brother boats
off south shore 'mid-island area' Lindenhurst etc (dont know what kind of boat though 35' something?
& the author of this one is from Northport/Eatons Neck w/much time in Babylon area ...small world.

Hi 2ndtry, I do have all the pictures of the fiberglassing process ...probably a hundred :)
They were taken on a regular 35mm so I have to try possibly scanning & see how they come out so I
can upload some. Thanks for the advice! I didnt see the other listed but if all is as it seems ...do you
think the price is not too far out? I have to list it in more places, maybe CL as Jolin had referenced.

Babylon/Lindenhurst area is my stomping (floating?) grounds, too. I live there and my boat will be slipped at the Bergen Point Marina this summer. Linda and I are also members of the Captree Power Squadron. As you say, small world!

Seriously, I wish you luck. I know that a Shamrock is a tough boat with a loyal following, so advertise as widely as possible.

Ebay will get you lots of looks from all over the country, but with a boat like yours I do think people will want to see the quality of the restoration in person. Sometimes lots of pics will get them interested, which is why I mentioned it (one of the other Shamrocks has 22 pics). CL is more local, you won't get as many eyes but those that see the ad are more likely to come see it in person. I think you would do well to list it in as many places as possible, and maybe even in a Shamrock forum like http://www.fishtheclassic.net.
