Re: Putting a 302 truck motor in a boat that had a omc 5.0

To get spark from the coil secondary, you have to pulse the - terminal with points (or an electronic module) while the + has 12-15 v on it from the battery. On some ignitions the + will drop to 8 v through a resistor after starting, to limit current/heating of the coil.
Place a small 12 v lamp across the + & - terminals of the coil to see if it pulses when you crank.

both distributors are electronic. But I will try the light to see if the coil pulses like it should. If not , then what?
Thank all for the help!!!!!

If not, see what's missing. It has to be either 12 v on the + coil terminal, or a negative pulse on the - from the module.
