I took my hydraulic pump to the outdrives trim, out of the boat for the winter. It was leaking hydraulic fluid though the oil resivor because the mounting screw for the resivor is on the bottom and the O-ring was bad. While I had it out of the boat I fixed the oil resivors o-ring, and decided to repaint the pumps bracket and clean up all the connections. I then noticed that the primary wire was in rough shape. I had some Marine Grade Tinned 6 gauge wire already laying around so I used that to replace the 8 gauge wire currenty powering the pump. I put the pump back in the boat. Wired it to the battery with the new 6 gauge wire, pluged in the three-wire wiring harness.
With my outdire already down being held up by rope to the back of the boat I hit the up on the up/down switch and nothing happend. No movement no noise. Then I hit The Trailer Button and the outdive came right up and the pump sounded good. So I hit the down on the up/down switch and again nothing. So the good news is my outdive is stuck in the up position!!
I have three wires coming out of the pump (wireharness) to the throtle handle; One is red which is power and I am getting power out of it. another is Blue which leads to the trailer button. And the other one is Green which leads to the Down side of the up/down switch. There is a Purple wire that comes out the up side of the up/down switch and is wired to a wiring harness that disapers into the outdrive. I get power all the way to the trailer and up/down switch and power all the way back to the pump on every wire when each curcuit is closed.
Why dosen't My up/down switch work? The trailer button works fine and the up/down switch worked fine before I took the pump out. I hooked everything up exactly how it was when I took the pump out. except the new 6 gauge primary wire.

1994 21' Marada Cuddy Cabin
1994 5.7 Liter Mercuruiser Sterndrive 350hp
Serial Number- OF115739
1994 Alpha One (generation 2) standard rotation
Serial Number- 0F166087
Any info is good info thanks!!!

There is a fuse or that set of switches or you did not get it hooked back up when you changed the wire?

yeah there are two fuses. One is a 110 amp fuse which the primary wire leads into. And there is a 20 amp fuse to the wiring harness which I have power going though both.

Here is a link to the Mercruiser service manual.
Manual #14

Section 1C has a troubleshooting chart with wiring diagrams and points to check.

Section 5A is strictly on the pump and also has troubleshooting info.

Just go step by step and in no time you will know where the problem is.
