I have an interest in an item in Southlake.........map tells me it is just outside Dallas, and would be real good if I could have someone on the ground to do a small job for me.

Hey Phil. Actually I go into Houston, about 300 miles away. Could make a diversion though, but there would be airfare involved. Come to think of it, that might actually be cheaper, hmmmmm . . . I have threatened to drive up there and look up JB who is close, but I am never there over a weekend. I will probably be back in Texas the second week of March.

there is a boat in Southlake I have an interest in purchasing.
It is on a trailer.
I use an agent in San Diego for all my business transactions. He is licienced and holds appropriate business accounts.
We are trying to avoid him travelling to Southlake to make an inspection.
As it is business and not pleasure, I pay a set fee plus milage for an inspection.
It is actually not very difficult, as we have a full description of the boat and its condition (which we are happy with).....it is a matter of making sure that description corresponds with reality. There may be other small tasks, but be assured, there is no physical work involved.

So I am trying to juggle things here by:
1. awaiting word from my agent as to : is it a do-able task
2. shipper for road-freight rates from Southlake to Port of Houston or Long
Beach Ca.
(explanation; everything in Texas is bigger, including their sea-rates and
port charges)
3. then of course will my agent and the buyer agree on price for the boat.

So JB, let me know if you want to do a small but reasonably well paying job for me, and we can proceed to the next step.
I am a good payer, and if you require a ref, then ask QC. I believe he will vouch for me.

I do need to get all my ducks-in-a-row before I can confirm 'yes' or 'no', and this is the starting point.

Just to let you know the outcome of my transaction.
JB inspected the boat for my agent Vic (in San Diego) on the Tuesday in question.
Everything shaped up fine, so I bought it, and it was delivered to Port of Houston the following Tuesday.
Should arrive in Aussie in around 3-4 weeks.

Better tell you blokes what I am up to.
I am buying 2nd hand MacGregor 26' Trailer Sailers (also known as Power Sailers) in America, shipping them out to Aussie and selling them.
This is the 8th one since Dec 07.
It is developing in to a nice small business....bit like having a hobby or project, that you can make a small profit from.
Took a lot of establishing a system tho.....the right people in the right places...then learning and understanding the logistics. They are a very difficult pack and un-pack.
I will open another thread later about small cruisers, as I believe there is a demand for then here in Australia. What I have in mind will probably raise Bondo's blood pressure!!...so look at your own risk Bondo

I think I may have overcome the problem with beam Kevin.
There is a shipping system called Flat Pack, which is basically a 40' container with no walls nor roof, and I understand you can load to a width of 8'6", and 12' high, but at a flat sea rate of US$12.4k plus a dozen or more extra charges from Port/loading/bunkering etc etc, means it is not real cheap.
The other option is RORO (Roll-on-Roll-off), but I have to get hold of a quote from a US Shipping Co. for the cubic price.
If I was to go for say a 38-45' Bayliner Pilothouse, then I think the rate is US$340 cubic meter.
I am chewing everything over at the moment, but i will be back.
