Hey,

I just bought an old aluminum fishing boat with an old 1955 johnson 10hp motor on it. Today I had the bright idea of stripping the faded paint of the motor cover and went ahead and did it, Have I made a terible mistake, the motor is in fairly good runnign condition and I am not looking at it as a big investment. My plan was just to spruse it up a little, any ideas on where I could get correct paint and decals?? anyhow I just figured I would make sure that I havened ruined any value ( if any) that my motor had.

I've got to strip the cowl of a '56 and would be curious what you used to strip it with and how it worked.

I used just a basic wood paint striper it is fairly goopy stuff that you apply thick, after about 30min the paint bubbles and you can use a ravor and just peel it off, some areas require that you apply another coat, I could get the exact name of the product for you if you wanted but I believe any old paint stripper will work.

Thanks, I'm familiar with the type you used.

If your not going to strip the inside of the cowl you might want to tape off the seams as it runs through and then you get strips of no paint on the inside, I found this out and therefore am more than likely going to strip the whole thing.
