Neat story......Nothing like watching a real craftsman work!! I love to watch Norm Abrams on pbs, too, just for that reason.

LOL Too funny Wayne!!!! I was in there yesterday.....that's where I bought the dampener puller!!! For some reason I bought short little 1/4 bolts hehehe Princess Auto is like a candy store! take caRE P

Got the prop shaft and finally had time to install it yesterday. No issues installing, but when I put the lower unit oil in, it was leaking out the side where I messed up the housing removing the shift shaft bushing.. I drained a little lube so it was below the leak. Sanded the area with 60 grit paper and applied two part marine epoxy to the welded area. Let it set up over nite and will refill and see what happens. Anybody think this will hold for long? If it doesn't I guess I will try rewelding. The welder said the casting was full of trash and would actually catch on fire while he tried to weld it up the last time. Might have been the oil in the casting. Any way will advise if the epoxy holds up.

The castings are pretty porous and I believe it is an aluminium alloy not pure aluminium. Welding aluminium often fails. I've heard its better to braze it. Let us know how the epoxy works out. I give it a 50/50 chance it works.

Well so far so good. I filled it up this morning and just checked, no leak. The real test will be when I put her in the lake. Would putting a ply of glass over the epoxy and more resin be a good thing or won't make any difference??

I woulda have used JB weld instead of epoxy , but if it works...
