Just found this site.Simply awesome info! I just came into a QD 20 10 Hp Johnson motor. The previous owner never got a chance to run it.
This will be my first restoration motor. So far it has what seems to be good compression. Overall it seems to be intact. Even has the old style tank and fuel lines.Opened the tank and it was still under pressure!
Any tips you fellas want to share? Need to get a new repair manual as mine is for newer motors.

Well, for one thing, you might as well pull the flywheel and replace the coils. They are always bad in those old OMC motors (dried up and cracked). You need a 3-bolt puller to get the flywheel off and a torque wrench to put it back on at 40-45 ft/lbs. The manual will show how to set the coil air-gap.

Sure hope that gas tank didn't have gas in it all that time, or you have a mess to clean up in there. Same goes for the carburetor.

And of course, replace the water pump impeller. Even though it may look good now, it will probably disintegrate soon after being put to use. No sense in taking a chance on burning up the motor.

Get those items taken care of, crank it up and go for a ride.
