Hello everyone,

Im new to outboards so I’m sure this is a basic question, but I appreciate any advice. Bought this motor a couple weeks ago. Good compression (90psi). New spark plugs, took the carb apart and put in a new carb kit. New lower end oil. Starts up first or second pull, runs great at top speed, only issue is it doesn’t idle very well at low speed and quits. When I did the carb I seated the low speed adjustment then went 1 1/2 turns out and have tried adjusting it from there. Adjusting the slow speed knob helped me get the rpms down a little further but still not all the way down.

Any tips on what I can look at?

Thank you!

when you serviced the carb did you clean the complete low speed circuit incl removal& replacement of the top dime size plug to clean the 3 small drip holes. the idle circuit feeds gas to the top half of the carb by suction via a side channel which must be cleaned (use carb cleaner and air pressure to blow it clean)

Describe how you cleaned the carb.

Aside from the air/fuel adjustment (carb), there is also a throttle adjustment. Look for a plastic screw under the pan on the right side (facing the motor). Adjust both the throttle idle and carb air mix to obtain the right idle setting.
