model is qd21. its a 1960 johnson seahorse 10hp. I just acquired it and was looking it over when i noticed the two wires coming from the kill switch (black button) were snipped clean. where were they originally hooked to? also, anybody know the oil to fuel mix? thanks

The two wires from the stop button go to each set of points respectively. When the button is pressed the points are shorted together thus stopping the engine.

That engine is a 24:1 mix as most/all OMC's are up to 1963.

There should be two wires coming out from under the magneto plate, probably on the starboard side (looking forward). They originally had scissor connectors. If you're lucky, those connectors are still present, so it's just a matter of re-attaching the cut ends, but retaining the ability to undo the mag from the switch should you need to down the road...

thanks guys........one other question. since that is not wired in, would that stop the motor from being started?

Fuel? Compression? Spark? If you have those three things, it should run... All the kill switch does is remove spark from the equation. If it is not hooked up - and the wiring that it would normally go to isn't hanging loose somewhere and grounding out - then the issue is probably one of the basics.

Those cut wires indicate that a previous owner must have been having problems with the motor. I would suspect it wasn't starting, so they cut those wires to eliminate that end of the equation. Like said previously, if those wires coming from under the magneto aren't shorting somewhere, and you have no spark, then time to check under the flywheel for bad coils, points, condensers or spark plugs/wires.
