Quadra Jet: cross threaded fuel intake fitting

I managed to cross-thread the Quadra Jet male-threaded fuel intake fitting. Of course it leaks. The brass fitting male threads look good, the carb female threads not so much. If I tap out the intake housing, I assume the male fitting will no longer fit properly (?). I'm not sure if it is a inverted connection. I'm thinking I might try to JB Weld the screw-in brass fitting and be done with it. I like this 650cfm Q-Jet since I put it back on. Thoughts please?

depending on how bad your existing threads are the dorman piece may work better than a helicoil for you. The dorman piece should cut new threads farther in the casting, so if they arent too messed up this may be a better way to go

And to prevent this in the future before bolting the carb to the manifold carefully thread the fuel line in by hand; especially with a rigid fuel line this prevents cross threading because the carb can move slightly to let the threads line up. Same thing when installing a new mechanical fuel pump that uses metal fuel lines.

Back in the day, since 4 jets have been out for decades, I remember seeing a fitting that had a rubber bushing and an expander bolt. Apparently, cross threading or wearing out of the threads was an issue. Mechanics would over tighten and strip threads. Anyway, a mechanic would insert and tighten to expand the rubber to make it seal. However, it may not be CG approved. I haven't seen one in years. The Dorman is probably the best, if you have enough metal left. Good luck!

I've had 2 Quadrajets (on my family's '75 Olds Delta 88 back in the old days) and on the boat which I have owned nearly 20 years, if you are careful you will not strip this, just remember all it has to do is seal, that's all.

Indeed! But, some people get lazy or stupid, not counting just plain old mistakes.

I also think part of the issue is that you are using a large sized wrench that gives a lot of leverage without realizing. Plus soft metal.

The other thing is that unlike in an auto applicaiton, the in carb filter on the Quadrajet is really just a screen, you are supposed to have a water separting filter to do the actual filteration. So they don't have to be replaced every season like the water seperating filters. I only do them when I do a rebuild.
