I seem to be running rich at an idle, when trolling I have carbon fouled plugs and smell of raw gas when idling. I have never had this problem before (until this spring). If i pull spark arrester off and look in carb, there seems to be an awful lot of fuel being dumped into engine. My question is should i be able to see fuel in carb at an idle? I always meticulously maintain my boat and always use stabil for storage---just dont understand the change from last fall to this spring

Sounds like it might betime for a carb cleaning and inlet needle, you might try some carb and injector cleaner thru thru the fuel, if it's varnish it should help--Bob

When idling or running very slowly, your plugs will look fouled when checked. The only sure way to tell by the plugs is to shut down at cruising speed and check them. But that won't tell you if the idle circuit is running too rich or not. YOu could have a stuck float inlet valve(that little silver plug that hangs off the end of the float arm). It might not be seating when the bowl fills like it should.<br /><br />Also make sure the choke is opening up all the way when the engine is warm. There is a fast idle cam on the starbord side of the carb that could be locking the choke valve from opening all the way. Only sure way to tell is to have the spark arrestor off while running to see if the choke valve opens all the way up when warm.

ok,,,,let me clarify.....these were new plugs and after trolling engine was missing badly..would bring boat on plane, after changing two plugs engine ran fine until i went fishing next time. choke is all the way open. I guess i will rebuild carb
