Quality: Old Capri vs New Runabout

So I'm in the market for a Bayliner. I found a very nice 2000 Capri 1850 LX 19'(with the 3.0l) that I'm interested in but don't know how many engine hrs. Then there's a 2005 Runabout 175 18' (with only 10hrs on the engine) and the 2000 is more money (about 1k more)! This is at a dealership. I mean, this is hard. It almost seems that the Capri's were made better! I see more side pockets, storage space, glove box and it appears that the seats were made better (all around more options). Maybe it's just me (same thing when I compare this older Capri with a Runabout 195 - kind of the same comparison). Am I right on this?

Thanks, I'll double-check with the dealer on the specs of the Capri. Do you happen to know if this Capri has the fiberglass liner? I've heard the the 175 does not but the 185 does. Oh yeah, and what is a fiberglass liner? Does that mean lining the floor?

Ok, I found out that the model is not even right. What they're selling is a 2000 1950CL Capri (19') w/ a 3.0l. Still...doesn't this price sound too high for a used 2000 boat? NADA lists it at $8,850 (avg retail). I mean, it is in good condition. I'm guessing this is because it's a dealer? I would really like to buy it.. think I'm going to try to offer 9k cash, but I don't thing they'll bite. <br /><br />Can anyone tell me the differences (in quality)of the new runabouts and the capris?

Oh yeah, checked with the dealer and he said that all Bayliners 21'(or 22' can't remember) and under aren't fiberglass lined - the floors are made of marine grade plywood. Good to know when storing.

The CLs are Bayliner "Classic" design. It is an older bowrider design. More square backed transom, and sharper edged lines. I believe all the CLs have wood floors. The rest of their runabout line is the "euopean" style. Swept back to swim platform at the transom. Nicer looking, but usually a little harder to work on (engine access). I thought they have a fiberglass floor option. Thought I read that in a Trailer Boats mag review. <br /><br />I would do a test drive of the boats. While some have been happy with only a 3.0L in 19', you should try it with what you expect to be your normal load of people and gear. <br /><br />BTW, I have a '97 2050 CL, and very happy with it.

I would be concerned about a 19' with a 3.0 liter. I have a 2004 175 with the 3.0 liter and I would not want any less power. I second the test drive.

Does the 3.0l have 4 cyl or 6?

It is an inline 4 cylinder. The 4.3L is a V6, and the 5.0L and 5.7L are SB V8.

The newer Liners have wood floors. They are made of treated plywood then glassed in so they should not rot nearly as bad as the older liners floors. However i felt that epoxy coating on all edges top and bottow with 2 coats would suffice. we will see in 10 years if I am right.

Realgun, isn't that how the standard floor is constructed? The $700+ option for the Cockpit Fiberglass Floor Liner on most of the runabouts, I would assume is pure fiberglass. The Bayliner website didn't help clarify it.

Hi all. I've found a 95' Capri 2050 with a Mercrusier 305 cu in V-8 that I'm going to check out tomorrow - take it out on the water, etc. Any advice on this model...anything to watch out for?<br /><br />I've asked the usual questions:<br /><br />1)salt water - only out about 6 times and flushed afterward each time.<br />2)storage - stored outside with mooring cover, however had a heating lamp inside. I'll make sure to check floor as best as I can.<br />3)2nd owner. Bought it 3yrs ago from a dealer (Olympic Boat Center). Dealer said that previous owner had used it in lakes.<br />4)He's not had to have any major engine work on it. Unsure of hours.<br />5)He's selling because he doesn't hardly use anymore.<br /><br />-- I need to ask him about winterizing/de-winterizing when I meet with him.<br /><br />-- Can anyone tell me if these engines are Fresh Water Cooled?<br /><br />-- Should there be a place to see how many hours are on the boat?<br /><br />THANKS!!

The talk I got from the boat gods at a boat show said inner liners are basically a boat in a boat. <br /><br />There is the outer hull and an inner hull. The outer hull is laid up, foamed in and sealed up, no wood decking. Then they place an inner liner (the boat within the boat) on top. They gel coat the top liner, fit with seats, etc and walla, nothing to rot. If they use wood to frame the inner liner might depend on the manufacturer but the selling point I got was nothing to rot ever. So long as everything is sealed well (foam taking on water) you should never have a problem. Hose em off and go!
