I have a 9.9 Horsepower 1976 Johnson

Model 10R76R
SN e4382618

Orginally the problem I was having was it would fire up everytime run good at WOT for 5 min or so then it would sputter down, If I turned down the throttle and brought it back up it would work good for a min or so then back to sputtering and losing RPM. So I put new plugs in (champion #7) the same kind it had and now I cannot even get it to start????? I however dont know what the gap should be, could spark gap be casing it not to start? And once I get it started what could be causing the loss in RPM after a few min?

Any advice will be great!!

Thanks in advance
Scott

Welcome - What you describe can be the result of a number of problems and the one that come first to my mind is overheating. When did you last replace the water pump?Check that out as well as messing with the plugs.

Those are great motors. I have a 1975.

could have you a float problem in the carb. Maybe a carb kit from your dealer, one with the new float.
