Question about bunk replacement

I did some work on my bunks last season-- I replaced the front, triangle-shaped bunks with pressure-treated wood I cut out using an old one for a guide.

But the back bunks, although they look like they're cut from simple 2x4s, I noticed they have an s-shaped metal reinforcement running through the middle of the wood. Since the bunks were still in pretty good shape then, I just recarpeted them.

But this year they're getting cracks and not looking too great. So if I replace them, do I need to get some type of special wood with the metal s-shaped reinforcement for the back bunks, or can I just use regular pressure-treated wood?

Re: Question about bunk replacement

Just my 2 cents. I have a 19ft open bow boat and I used 2X6 pressure treated wood for my bunks and I coated them with epoxy before carpet. I figured if the epoxy coating works for the inside of the boat why shouldn't work for the bunks as well. Hope this gives you an idea. Good Luck.

you really dont need the reinforcement just use pressure treated wood and you will be fine.
