Im new to iboats and i have surfing around on here getting some pretty good informaion. My question is i am replacing the carpet in my bayliner 185 because some spots have come of from previous owners lack of covering. i pulled the carpet and found that where the spot was coming up was from im guessing spilled oil or some sort of oil based product. the wood is in good shape but has soaked up the oil. is there a way to clean it out of the wood so that the carpet adhiesive will work or can i screw down so then marine grade plywood on top just put the carpet on that?

dont tell me an 05 b-liner deck isnt glassed !!!!!!!

before you lay the carpet....glass it !!!! glass it all !!!!

forget about the marine on the top.....your asking for trouble....and youll add a lot of weight that isnt needed.......just take a circ saw and cut out the oiled area......then add backing around the perimiter...and glass in a new peice.....use a sealant....in the cut crevice or peanut butter.

its a quick repair.......

i cant believe...the didnt glass the deck !!!!!!!

cheers

i was really ....really ....really hoping that they had improved, and stopped scrimping on trivial detales that add 50 bucks to the cost and 10 years to the life :(

hey now hey now, the corners are glassed and the seams are also. im not much in to cutting into the deck especially where its at. would it be possible to just lay down some 1/4 inch marine plywood that shouldnt add much weight at all.

No. Because when the deck underneath rots away, you then have a gap between the deck and stringers.

FYI the new Bayliners I saw have no carpet. All vinyl flooring. The type with the raised round bump the size of a quarter. Now thats a nice floor. And for the last few years, many Bayliner models (like the 245) use only composits for stringers, bulkheads and transom. No wood to rot below deck.
