On my 1989 90hp I remove the heads off and noticed some light damage inside the heads on the dom part. They look like light long dent. Should i replace these heads, sand, or just dont worry about it ??

thanks
Dave

What you dont want in there is sharp edges. Technically, you need to replace the head. In the real world there are many like that that have been smoothed in one way or another that work just fine.

Now, all this is assuming the marks were the result of a previous problem that was corrected.

Dhadley: I agree! if those dent's are brand new, they came from a missing part somewhere. Look for a broken piston ring.

Re: question about head damage

Dave, RJ picked up on the critical part. Is it new damage? Like he mentioned, a long thin imprint can be a ring. It might be something else but a piece of ring is most common.

Now, if you do decide to replace the head make sure it matches the good one -- not necessairly the bad one. IE -- if you are replacing the starboard head (most common) make sure the new head is 1 number higher than the casting number on the port head still on the motor.
