Another suggestion....

Check with you local Auto Body Repair shops to see where they get their supplies. You might be able to "ADD ON" to their next order and get a discount. A case of Beer and good conversation sometimes works wonders.

I'm just sayin...:D

Yes, I used the Max Bond low viscosity epoxy resin from that EBAY guy in Ontario, CA. I used it:

  • Straight to glass in my replacement deck
  • Cut about 25% with lacquer thinner to seal the wood for my upholstered bolsters
  • With various fillers (silica/talc/TiO2) to make my own "Marine-Tex / peanut butter" for fillets and structural fills
It is an excellent product, at a very good price, and that guy ships FAST.

Re: question about max bond epoxy resin

Thanks everyone for their input. I just ordered 2 gallons. I'm redoing my transom, deck and stringer, with 1 layer of 6 oz on bottom and 2 layers of 6oz on top. I'm using 1708 on the stringers and transom, how much resin do you think I'll need. I'll have 4 gallons of epoxy when this comes in. Thanks again

My ballpark guess would be that you'll need about 8 gallons to do all that on your 19'er.

Estimating 2.5 gal for the stringers, 1.5 gal for the transom, and 4 gal for the deck.

Hey Proshine43 - If you're still following this thread, I was wondering how the MAXBOND epoxy worked for you - I am fixing up a 77 skeeter wrangler also need to do a transom replacement, and will need to also replace the floor. I think i can salvage the stringers if I do some minor filling.

I'll need to hang a 1984 140hp Johnson outboard off the transom, so it will have to hold up under a lot of strain...I could go with more of a West System, but my budget likes cheaper better...

You should start a new thread with your boat, you'll get better responses.
