Hi all,
I'm trying to remove the flywheel on a 1968 sportwin 9.5 to change the coil. i noticed that the holes on the top of the flywheel that im supposed to screw my puller into are NOT threaded at all. also, the holes are much more towards the outside diameter than my 64 johnson 9.5, basically my puller would not reach any of the holes.
Is there a special tool for flywheel removal on this motor? i could always use the 3 finger type puller and grab the outside of the flywheel, but if there is an easier way, im open to suggestions.

Re: question about removing flywheel on 68 9.5 sportwin

I am not going to be much help, all the flywheels I have pulled have had the holes tapped and were spaced so that my puller would fit.
I don't think you want to use a puller that grabs the outside of the flywheel, tends to warp the flywheel.
I am sure someone will come along with the ansewer to your problem.

If they are drilled to about .200" then just get a 1/4-20 tap and tap them.

3 finger puller not a good idea as it may warp the fw...non threaded holes, probably were at one time and the threads have been pulled out...tap new threads into those holes and use #8 or harder bolts to pull with

ok, i found the three threaded bolts for the puller under a trim ring once i pulled the flywheel nut off. crisis averted. thanks guys.
