You could cover a LOT of boat territory from say Tampa down here to Ft. Myers..And Miami is 90 minutes or so across the glades.
You may be able to fly to Tampa or RSW (Ft. Myers) drive from city to city working to Miami and find the best boat for you much cheaper...

I do not know about Canadain tarrifs or other issues getting it up north tho..Most boast retire HERE from up North, lol

Re: Question about Saltwater Boat

Aside from the question as to its quality, I think the price is a little high even in good shape. My Stingray 185lx, slightly shorter than the boat you're looking at, was only $16k and that was new from the dealer, an 08 model left over in 09. So for an 8 year old boat I would hope the price would be dropped a little more. I think you could find a better deal if you keep looking.

Re: Question about Saltwater Boat

I'm in Canada, so prices are higher than in the US. With our dollar on par with the US dollar now, it makes shopping US a good option.. Just looking for the right deal

Now as for the Stingray, I have passed on the boat and am searching for something else.

Looking for an 19-21 ft bowrider. Year 2000 or newer. Must do 50MPH and be in good condition. Price range 10K - 13K

I'll keep looking and until then will ride my Bayliner into her grave... lol

I would even be surprised if you couldn't get a better deal closer to home. FL isn't the only place with boats and deals to be had. And if you find a single owner northern boat you won't have to worry about possible hidden saltwater related problems either.

Driving definitely isn't fun, especially considering the fact that on the way back you'd be going even slower, towing a boat whose hub, axle, and brake condition better be no less than perfect to make the trip. If the trailer has been dunked in saltwater your odds are 50/50.

Re: Question about Saltwater Boat

I have no knowledge of this boat but there's a few red flags I'd be concerned with. It's not uncommon for boats to sit on lifts for years here, people buy houses on the water, feel like they need a boat and end up never using it but as already stated, it needs to be run. I'd be real concerned with a bad fuel issues and all that entails if it sat for three years, developing a hook in the hull was also mentioned. I'd look closer to home.

Re: Question about Saltwater Boat

Well I have found a couple boats I am really interested in. Both are Bayliner 215 21 footers in Michigan. Ones a 2004, the others a 2003. I know Bayliner has a bit of a bad rep, but I really like this boat. Its exactly what I am looking for. I really dont like captain seats, so this boat has the back to backs I like making it a perfect fish/ski/family combo. Its a deep hull which is great for the kids. Its alot bigger inside than all the other 21 footers as the swim platform is not integrated into the boat and size. And it's said to hit the magic number for me of 50 MPH with the 5L 220 HP Mercruiser.

Both boats are about a 7 hour drive from me so while not great, it's not that bad either.

Any opinions on this boat???

Re: Question about Saltwater Boat

So am I that out of the ordinary with a 2001 merc 5.0 alpha, run in salt and just replaced the exhaust and risers for the first time with over 950 hours? I pulled the port riser two years ago and all looked fine by a merc mechanic. I ran compression test at the end of last year and one cyl was a bit lower on the starboard side so I pulled that riser and saw some slight evidence of rust. Now I will say the boat has been run regularly throughout the year since new, including winter so maybe the fact they never really went dry and were ALWAYS flushed with "salt away" made a difference? I think I did wait a bit too long though as that cyl obviously did have some slight amount of damage but runs ok and the numbers were not way low. Doesnt seem to miss after the break-in run this past weekend. I will follow up with a compression test after a few more trips.
