Question about term for boat...and anchoring

I have a 56 Glass Magic 14 foot boat. Was wondering if there is a term for this type of boat with the closed bow, as opposed to boats with open bow? With that asked, is it ok to put an anchor pulley on these type boats? Cannot find any pictures of this small of a boat with anchor there, but may be anchoring in current to plunk for salmon, and seems the only practical place for anchor, rather than dropping over side. Thanks for any help!

Sounds like a closed bow runabout, and yes, you can do this. It has been done several times.

the reel goes in the passenger area and the other part w the anchor on the bow... you use pulleys to route the rope through the deck (often a pulley is attached to the back of the bow eye) and to the location of the reel... you twist a knob to drop the anchor and crank the handle to raise it.

Thank you for the links. Really like the first idea, using the bow eye, with a shorter rope attavhed for retrieval. Only adjustment being, maybe attaching a loop to the eye and running line through it, tying off at cleat by windshield. Still using another rope to retrieve to avoid too much friction and pressure on eye. This would allow to adjust length of anchor rope, where just tying off does not...at least that i can imagine. Sound feasible?

If you want to go that route I suggest you tie a rope in a loop through your bow eye with a ring at the knot..... run your anchor line through the ring.... cleat it with the ring at the windshield and deploy the anchor and cleat it..... pull the loop till the ring is at the bow and then cleat the loop..... then to retrieve you return the ring to your location and bring up the anchor

Kind of what i had in mind, only leaving the ring at the eye, and retrieving with second shorter rope. Only actually using ring for keeping rope in place, and deployment.

Thinking your idea allows for easier retrieval, just not quite putting the picture together in my head!

imagine a clothesline on pulleys between two buildings across an alley 10 stories below.... the other building is the bow and your building is the windshield.... tie a ring to the clothes line and put the anchor rope through it..... drop the anchor... then pull the ring across the alley with the clothes line and tie it off so it can't come back till you are ready to retrieve.....


Your anchor line will get shorter by the distance from the windshield to the bow because it is tied off at the windshield but that should be a non issue since you should have plenty of rope deployed before cleating
