Question about the ski locker

Hey guys,
In my last thread, i started asking about this topic and i decided i should just make a new thread.
I was looking under the carpet in the ski locker and found a triangular cut in the rear of the locker ( towards the stern ). Under the floor of the locker, i could see a little water through that triangular cut moving up and down (from bow to stern ) I did my best to get as much of the water out as i could. I used a turkey baster ( laugh all you will ) and sucked about 3 quarts of water out. I had to make sure to move the jack of the boat up and down to make sure i got all the water out, or as much as i could.
Anyone know anything about that triangular cut? And is water supposed to be down there..? As like a drain to go back to the bilge? Because when im launching the boat, obviously at a steep angle, i can see a little bit of water build up against the transom. Not enough to use the bilge pump. but enough to see a little. Once the boat is back to a flat surface once i pull it out of the water, the water goes away. this may sound like a newb question, but is water supposed to travel under the floor of the locker to the bilge if water gets in the locker?

Thanks guys, i know i was rambleing on, but im just trying to paint a picture of whats goin on.

Yes, and if you get water further forward (if its a bowrider) it should drain from there through the locker and into the bilge. After you put it back on the trailer pull the plug and the water will drain out on your way home. When you get home make sure to raise the bow so any remaining water will drain out of the boat.

Yup, water must drain to the back of the boat. Otherwise everything would fill up with water and you would have a dry bilge.

If you have time and youre not holding anyone up, take the plug out when youre on the ramp. Just dont forget to put it back in.

Thats a relief. I kind of thought that..but i had to be sure. So i basically spent over an hour with a turkey baster taking an ounce of water out at a time, for no reason. haha..

But just to make sure we're on the same page here.
The drain channel from under the locker that runs to the back of the bilge, will be under the gas tank too then hey? I thought that maybe the water would travel out from where i can see the gas tank in the back.

Depends on what shape the tank is and where its mounted but yes probably. Just make sure there is no debris trapped (leaves etc) so the water has a free path to the plug hole in the transom. And make sure you store it with the bow high enough to allow any remaining water (or rain if stored outdoors) to get out of the boat.

Water sitting in the boat or under the floor for long periods of time is very bad especially on older boats that used wood for the floor, stringers and transom.

Thanks guys,
I have the bow as high as i can get it and will start doing that everytime i put it away in the garage after an outing.
And yeah i went out to look at it, it appears the channel where the water would run from front to back, under the floor, is under the gas tank.
